I've Heard It All - I Think

I was having a great day at work today until one particular employee asked me a question I just couldn't believe. Being in management and working at the airport I am surrounded by different ethnic groups. If you can name the nationality you will find it at the airport, don't get me wrong I have nothing against differences in other cultures. I rather enjoy learning about different cultures and their lives.

Being an American, as the years go by you can tell that things are changing from what you once knew. Case in point, today an employee approached me and asked; "As you know I will be fasting come September 1st; can I change my schedule from the PM shift to AM shift?" If you have been in the work force for any amount of time you can understand my surprise with the question. After the question was asked, I stood there for about 30 seconds with this look on my face. The look on my face was are you seriously asking me this question?

My answer to the employee was this; I hired you to work a particular shift due to the needs of the business. Are you seriously asking me to accommodate you for that particular reason? I told the employee don't answer that, think about it and get back to me later.
